Too bad the long weekend is over...
It's already Monday, and it feels like this weekend went way too fast. I wish it lasted until Wednesday. At least... It was so good having Rob home. We all missed each other so much. The cats included. Adi finally enjoyed her spanking ritual and Billie, her daddy time in Rob's arms. I am not even writing about Bobby, because he got spoiled more than any of us! ;-)
I think that was the first weekend, since we moved in here, when I actually relaxed. No unpacking, no cleaning, no folding and carrying boxes. Rob did a lot of work outside though. He took care of the loan, trimmed the bushes, and cleaned the outside windows with a pressure washer (or whatever it is called). The house looks pretty good now and we are making a quick progress here. Poor baby, he really worked hard during this weekend. And it was 105'F, but it wasn't even close to the heat we had on Okinawa.
On Sunday we had Tom, Kathryn and Tom's sister, Linda, over for dinner. Our other neighbour, Jim, came to join us as well. It was my first big meal cooked in our new house. And it turned out pretty well, according to our guests, (or they were all trying to be nice...hmmm). Kathryn brought a delicious, freshly baked, upside-down pineapple cake--yummy!!! I've never had it before, and simply loved it. It almost disappeared in no time, but we were able to rescue a little bit for later. We had a great time together and just didn't want anybody to leave.
It was a wonderful Sunday, spend in a great company. Well, Tom and Kathryn are hard to call neighbours anymore; they are more like family, which I mentioned already several times before. But I can't help it--we just love them so much!
Today everything went back to normal. But I am sad since I already miss my baby. A good medicine for my miserable mood was a phone call conversation I had with Aunt Karen and Uncle Jim--2 hours and 19 minutes! The last time I was on the phone for that long, was with Rob! Now I will have to marry Aunt Karen. ;-) But she sounded so good, as sweet and wonderful as she is, and it was great talking to them both. And it made me miss them even more...
Then I went to see Tom and Kathryn. Every time we see each other (2-3 times a day), it is so pleasant and just... great. Today they showed me their VERY IMPRESSIVE library, something that just made me drool. I am such a sucker for books, especially the old ones. Tom has tons of books that I already see myself borrowing, since we seem to have similar interests. But what really amazed me, was Kathryn's collection. Wow. Among other books, she has all of the books written by Homer Hickam, a writer that used to be her student, in English and Speech class! Most of the books were signed for Kathryn, thanking her for what he'd become. His last book (I think it's his last), "We Are Not Afraid" includes a story that Kathryn wrote! It's called A Life of Service, and it's on page 111. Again--wow! I have the book in my hands and I am going to start reading it tonight. Then Kathryn showed me her and Tom's wedding pictures, and I swear--this woman looked like Grace Kelly! I am not even mentioning the dress (drooling again...). Tom looked very handsome, which is not a surprise at all.
After this unexpectedly interesting evening, I came home to my lonely doggies and kitties. Bobby had diarrhea, and Adi threw up on the couch.

That's Tom (on the left) and Jim, in our living room.

That's Kathryn--smiling, and Linda, petting Bobby.

Love the update and the pictures.
Thank you Jill! Too bad we couldn't be in CA for your b-day! I hope you had a great day...:-)
Whoa, what a great but quick weekend! It was so nice to be home with my family. It took about 20 hours of driving (round trip), but it was certainly worth it. My girl did so much work on the house since I've been away--very impressive. She's doing a great job, and she's doing it all by herself. No matter how much I try to teach Bella and the cats how to do things that help their mom out, it's no use. Bobby, of course, does what he can; but he's only one dog.
Having everybody over for lunch Sunday was really nice. Beata's so right. Tom and Kathryn are family now. It was also a pleasure meeting Linda and seeing Jim again. Jim will be gone by the time I'm back home, but I'm sure we'll see him again.
The pictures are great, honey. I didn't notice when I took the picture of Tom and Jim on the couch, but Tom's either feigning sleep or he's petting one of the cats or something. If he's pretending to sleep, that's just hilarious. I can't wait to see the library and photos now.
I love you, baby. I made it safe and sound and in record time. Jill, happy birthday! I love and miss you so much.
Love Rob
Honey, I am so glad that you've made it back safely. Now I can go to sleep... it's past midnight. :-)
We miss you so much, all of us, the cats, dogs, me, Kathryn and Tom. I can't wait to have you back home again. Love you!!!!!!
Thanks for all the great pictures. So glad you had a wonderful weekend. Love, Mom
Hello My Dear!
It was so wonderful to have a chance to sit down and have such a lovely conversation with you on Monday! The pictures of your first dinner party were fabulous. . Through your writing I feel like I know Tom and Kathryn so well. I am happy that you have another set of "parents" there by you. Welcome to the family, Tom and Kathryn!
I can't believe how much progress you have made on the house. You are doing such a great job. What a lot of work, but very worthwhile! Keep up the good work.
I have my fingers crossed and can't wait to hear about the job.
Rob, glad to hear you got both ways safely. You be careful driving.
I love you guys!
Aunt Karen
Thank you, Karen. We feel we already know you and Jill and Rob's Mom through Rob and Beata. We have never met two such wonderful young people as Rob and Beata. From the very first meeting with them we all seemed to adopt each other. We have two sons and two daughters-in-law and 3 (soon to be 4) grandchildren, but they live 4 and 6 1/2 hours from us so we don't see them as often as we"d like to and when we met Rob and Beata it was just like they were our own family. They are both such warm, loving people and they are now a part of our lives and we love them dearly.
We can't wait to meet all of you when you come to visit them. Beata has done such a fantastic job with their house and she is so anxious to show it off to all of you. Thanks to all of you for readily letting us share in their lives. Rest assured Beata will be well taken care of by us while Rob is away. (Kathryn)
Great to "meet" you, Kathryn. I'm so happy you are taking such good care of my kids.
And Beata, who is that guy cleaning out your gutters? Couldn't be my son. Nope. Couldn't be.
Hello Aunt Karen! It was WONDERFUL talking to you the other day. I just wish we could do it face to face... :-) Thank you for welcoming Kathryn and Tom; they had become a very important part of our lives here. :-)
My sweet Kathryn, thank you for leaving such a wonderful comment! I am so glad that you are keeping up with my blog, even though you see more during the day than anybody else! I love you guys!!!!
Hello my Dee! I didn't even noticed those flip-flops! ha!ha!ha! Yes, he does look good--that's why I married him! ;-) I am off to a second interview today about the same job. Oh, I HOPE I get it!
MOM! That IS your son!!!! And you know what??? He actually enjoyes all the house work, including the gutters! But nothing makes him as happy as driving that tractor!
Hi Beata (and Kathryn!)
It was so nice to see you on Beata's blog, Kathryn! And though I am sure I am partial, I have to agree with you wholeheartedly. They are two very exceptional people. I have always felt very close to Rob, ever since I married into the family (going on 13 years now). And though he has always made me feel special, I have to say that he has a way of making everyone feel that way! And from the first moment I met Beata, she was more like a little sister than anything. Jer has the fortune of having a wonderful family! So thanks Kathryn (and Tom!) for being such wonderful people and helping to watch over Rob and Beata. I know they are very capable of taking care of themselves, but it is nice to know that they have someone like you guys who are like their guardian angels around if they need anything! I can't wait to meet you both. You are the best!
Beata, I love you. Let me know how the 2nd interview goes! I have all of my fingers crossed.
Love, Aunt Karen
My sweet Aunt Karen! The interview went well, and now I will have to go through two sleepless night, until I find out on Friday if I got hired or not. :-)
I love you too, a lot! I can't wait to see you here!!!
hmm...power washer and riding mower...Joe is so jealous. Great pictures, and glad you had a weekend together.
