Starting new life in North Carolina
On our first day in Fayetteville we managed to take care of tons of important things. Since it's been two weeks ago, I am not exactly sure what it was, but we did picked up my new SUV!!! It's a Ford Escape, ash-gold metallic and it's beautiful! I chose the color way back in Okinawa. We also got our cell phones, which made us feel like we are back in civilization for good. It was so much fun calling each other and also saving ALL those numbers. :-)
These two things were the highlight of our first day here. Ah, we also opened new bank accounts with the local bank, Wachovia.
Then we drove around Fayetteville, just checking the area. At that point, we still didn't know where we will be living. We got lost most of the time, and it also seemed like everybody, on purpose, was driving too fast--just to confused us even more. All those years in Okinawa, with sloooow driving and on the left side of the road, had its influence. But since Rob was mostly driving I was safe (or at least I thought I was...)
Fayetteville definitely looks nicer on its website's photos, but I knew that somewhere around there must be this hidden beauty. I decided to give it a time.
Every day we were busy, driving around and taking care of stuff. Almost each day by the time we got back to our room, it was bed time. We loved the fact that we had all the stores around (normal shopping!), malls, restaurants, and just everything available to us, unlike in Okinawa, but we've also had tons of paper work and other stuff, to take care of.
Rob kept running into his old friends, almost everyday! It was so much fun watching him reuniting with his old buddies. I am so happy for Rob that coming here feels like coming back home, seeing places he knows, and meeting people he knew for years. Some of his old friends called him out of the blue, and I am still wondering how did they got his number so quick???
Few days after we got my SUV, we picked Rob's truck. It's a Dodge Dakota, and we both love it! The same day, early in the morning I went to take the test for my North Carolina driving license. Since I wasn't driving much around here, in my new car, I wasn't used to the steering wheel on the left side, but I passed both the written test and the driving test, and now I am a proud owner of an American driving license--my first.
Few days after we arrived, and when the most important things was taken care of, with big excitement we've made arrangement to meet our real estate agent, Chester.
I should dedicate a whole new posting to Chester, since he became our best friend from the day we met. Not only we loved each others company, but we felt like we were meant to be friends for ever! Chester, to me, feels like one of the Bozarth's brothers. I am serious! His sense of humor, intelligence, and just warm personality took over our hearts. We couldn't get enough of each other and ended up spending day after day, together. And that was not only for looking at houses, which we also (of course) did, but just enjoying Chester's hospitality and his guidance around the area. And believe me, he knew where to take us! I found that hidden beauty of this amazing place and both Rob and I fell in love with North Carolina. We had so much fun with Chester, we laughed, joked, talked about just anything there is possible to talk about, so when we came back to our room, we already missed him. And according to our beloved friend, he felt the same way.
Well, let's not forget about houses. The very first day, Chester showed us few of them, in the area where he lives himself. I was overwhelmed with the surroundings and already, in my heart, picked one house. The following days we saw about 20 or more other houses, in different areas. But when it came to deciding, we had two houses to chose from, both which we saw that first day. We went and looked at them again, and Rob noticed why I loved the house that I wanted mostly. It became his choice also, and we started the procedures.
We were unbelievably excited! Each time we went back to look at the house, the more we fell in love with it! It's just perfect and beautiful. It's about half an hour drive from Frot Bragg, going north toward Raleigh, which is just exactly what we wanted. The house is in a gated community, called "Carolina Trace". There are several lakes, tons of trees, golf courses, tennis courts, swimming pool, and just the most beautiful landscaping. Plus, we will be living close to Chester. :-)
We have about a 1/2 acre of land, but it seems more than that. There are tall threes, bushes, and flowers between houses, which is gorgeous and gives each house its privacy. Our house has 3 bedrooms, big kitchen, living room with a fire place, a library, two full baths (gorgeous!), two car garage, and a large deck on the back of the house.
Now we are only hoping that inspection is going to pass well and we will be able to move in on the 4th of May, (date is according to our bank.)

That's our Chester! Isn't he cute???
That day we went for a wonderful sightseeing around Southern Pines, Pinehurst, and all other beautiful places that I just can't remember names of... sorry!
Chester knows everything and everyone around here. And they all seem to love him!

Our sightseeing day ended up by sunset. The whole town was so beautiful that we didn't want to leave. Thank you Chester for making this day so special!
I will post pictures of (hopefully) our house in my next update.
