Game Weekend
I never really liked playing games. Nobody in my family ever did.
So when I came to Okinawa I wasn't too happy to find out that Rob wanted to play board games almost every day. But only after one day of playing Yahtzee, a game that I've never even seen before, I was hungry for more. Rob created a monster! We bought Scrabble, Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, Pictionary, and many others. Last year Mom sent us a chess set that we bought for her while in Poland. She never used it and returned it to us. We were totally hooked. We would play for hours, days, weeks, months... until we got tired and moved to poker.
Poker was better than I ever imagined.
Rob gathered a great group of people and we started having poker nights at our house. We have a poker table (made by Rob), casino chips, cards and everything a poker addict needs. We enjoyed being with our friends and it was so much fun that it became sort of tradition in our house.
Yesterday we invited our friends over for another poker night. I cooked Thai food: Red Curried Shrimp Soup, Pad Thai, Papaya Salad and rice, and I baked a Tahitian coconut bread. We had two new people over: Monika who is Polish and Brian who is Samoan. I just met Monika last week. I wish I knew her before; we had a connection at first sight! Too bad we didn't meet sooner, but it's better late than never. Brian is Rob's friend from work, just a great guy--what a wonderful addition.
Charmelle and Johnny B, our faithful poker players and beloved friends, came over as well. Whenever they are around, there is a guaranteed laugh! This couple is like a bomb full of jokes and silly humor. It was a blast!
We are going to miss everyone; we wish our friends were moving to Fort Bragg with us. I don't even remember the last time I had such a great time and enjoyed company that much.

You know me, kiddo. I'm so damn jealous. Wish I could have been there to kick your butts at poker. (And any other game, but chess.)
Can't wait 'til you move to the states so I can show you how to really play those games.
Your menu sounds wonderful, and your friends do too. I know you'll miss them.
